Policies
Below are brief outlines of some key policies. The policy file is readily available at the Pre-school.

Behaviour Policy
At First Steps we believe that children and adults flourish best when they know how they are expected to behave and should be free to play and learn without fear of being hurt or unfairly restricted by anyone else. We aim to provide an environment in which there is acceptable behaviour and where children learn to respect themselves, other people and their environment.

Equal opportunities
First Steps is committed to valuing diversity by providing equality of opportunity and anti- discriminatory practice for all children and families. We will ensure that our service is fully inclusive in meeting the needs of all children, particularly those that arise from their ethnic heritage, social and economic background, gender, ability or disability.

Special needs
We are pro-active in ensuring that appropriate action can be taken when a child is identified as having special needs. Children with special educational needs are supported by our SENCO who will liaise with you and outside agencies if appropriate, to plan and implement an individual educational plan.

Safeguarding children
At First Steps we have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. The protection of children is of paramount importance. We have ensured that our policy is in line with “Safeguarding” statutory framework for The Early Years Foundation Stage (E.Y.F.S.) , the LSCB (Local safeguarding children Board) summary and the latest guidance set out in The Prevent Duty & Promoting British Values legislation.

Parental involvement
Supporting parents as their children’s first and most important educators. We aim to work in partnership by involving parents in the life of the pre-school and their children’s education.
